Al (Doc) Sloan is 2 Rude’s Tenor Sax player. Al grew up in Lancashire where he first picked up the clarinet at at the age of 8. This was great but the sax seemed more exciting and he started playing the sax at the age of 12 when he played Baritone and alto sax for the West Lancashire Schools Big Band. He has played a range of styles over the years including jazz, pop and soul. While he was a postgraduate student at the University of Birmingham he performed at the Edinburgh festival and other notable venues he has played include The Natural History Museum, Blackpool Winter Gardens, Preston Guild Hall, Birmingham ICC and supporting GLC with 2Rude at the Newport Centre. Al fits in his 2 Rude commitments around his demanding career and says “the vibe of playing with the boys in 2 Rude helps keeps all things in perspective and is a great release. This music makes people want to dance and have a great time and this is what it is all about”.
